Match a transaction that includes bank charges
Handle fees with a second contra account, or automate them with a rule if they are fixed.
When a bank transaction includes bank fees or charges, there are two ways to handle it in Ubyquo, depending on whether the charge amount is variable or fixed.
1
Variable bank charge
When the bank charge amount varies from one transaction to the next, it cannot be handled automatically.
Steps to follow
- Do the matching manually.
- In the Editor de Movimientos (Transactions editor), add a second contra account.
- Assign to this contra account the ledger account for bank charges, for example account 626.
2
Fixed bank charge
If the bank charge is a recurring, constant amount, you can automate its handling with a matching rule.
Steps to follow
- Create a new rule following the article Automate repetitive bank transactions with rules in Ubyquo .
- Leave the main contra account empty.
- Add a second contra account with:
- — The ledger account for fixed bank charges.
- — The exact amount of the charge.
Advantages of using rules
Automation with rules lets you:
- Save time when handling recurring transactions.
- Reduce errors in manual assignment.
- Keep consistent accounting for transactions with recurring bank charges.
